Process Optimization and Innovation

OUR CLIENT
PEG owned personal hygiene products manufacturer which provides all-natural soap and other hygiene care products to an international customer base via a north American manufacturing site with an annual revenue in excess of $500 million.

THE CHALLENGE
Fill an interim Engineering and Continuous Improvement Director role to bring stability to Operations improvement efforts, create the Manufacturing Engineering department, and execute improvements to the current manufacturing process.

BUSINESS NEEDS
Form a Manufacturing Engineering organization and improve the current startup process via:

  1. Develop roles and responsibilities and fill open positions
  2. Process engineering analysis and improvement opportunity identification
  3. New process design, equipment specification, and capital procurement
  4. Capital project management and “Pilot” line implementation.

SCIMET took on the interim Director of Manufacturing Engineering and Continuous Improvement Role and developed the organization structure, defined the roles and responsibilities, and filled out the organization. While in the role, SCIMET also implemented a project prioritization and management process and a capital request and management process. SCIMET also worked with the Team to develop a new manufacturing process and production line including new layout, capital equipment requirements, and production process improvements. SCIMET also supported a plant consolidation and optimization. The improvement efforts resulted in a $3+ MM direct cost reduction and a 50% reduction in production lead time.
